<p>Thiruvananthapuram: A group of students at Banavasi near Neerchal in Kasargod on Sunday received a hands-on experience of traditional paddy cultivations.</p><p>Professor in Kannada at Kasargod government college, Rathnakara Mallamoole is leading the Banavaasi agricultural project which aims at bringing back the younger generations to traditional paddy cultivation.</p><p>As part of the efforts, around 1.5 acre barren land was converted into fertile fields. A herbal medicine garden was already set up.</p><p>On Sunday 'Kandokori Harvest Hymn' rice planting festival was organised where Padma Shri recipient Beleri Satyanarayana and many traditional farmers gave awareness to the students about the importance of paddy cultivation. </p>.Telangana govt’s announcement of Rs 500 bonus on fine paddy pushes cultivation up by 61%.<p>The elderly farmers and skilled artisans gave hands-on training to the students on the traditional methods of cultivation using traditional agricultural tools 'gorabe' and 'muttale' made using naturally available materials. Folk artists performing traditional songs, folk games and traditional food that farmers used to consume were other attractions of the event.</p><p>Mallamoole said that around 200 people participated in the event which was aimed at providing an awareness on how to convert barren land into fertile land. The Banavasi agricultural project also included implementing solar energy and rainwater harvesting systems.</p>
