<p>Guwahati: In a major success towards disarmament, security forces in strife-torn Manipur recovered 328 sophisticated weapons in five valley districts during operations on Friday and Saturday.</p><p>The seized weapons included 151 SLR rifles, 65 INSAS rifles, six AK series rifles, 73 other rifles, one mortar and five carbines.</p><p>Large quantities of ammunition and other equipment were also recovered. </p>.Meitei, Kuki-Zo girls from Manipur among crew members killed in Air India plane crash.<p>Manipur police said the weapons were seized during operations launched based on special intelligence inputs about presence of large cache of weapons in the outskirts of the valley districts. The valley districts -- Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching -- are Meitei-dominated areas.</p><p>The operation was conducted by police, paramilitary forces, army and Assam Rifles.</p><p>"This successful operation marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts of Manipur police and allied security forces to restore peace, maintain public order, and ensure the safety of the public and their properties," said a statement issued by Manipur Police on Saturday.</p>.Brooms, not bars: Manipur Police's unique approach for protest management.<p>Most of these weapons were looted during the conflict involving the Meitei and the Kuki community that erupted in May 2023. A large number of such looted weapons have still remained missing raising concerns about further conflict.</p><p>More than 260 people have died and 60,000 others have been displaced, both in the valley and the hills.</p><p>Manipur has remained under President's Rule since February this year. The security forces and the administration under the Governor have been trying to recover the weapons, which is crucial for restoration of peace in the conflict-torn state.</p>
