NC complains to EC against Modi speeches

The ruling National Conference (NC) on Sunday filed a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) against the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “wild, unsubstantiated and defamatory” accusations against the NC leadership during his recent speeches in Jammu.

“Modi has repeatedly, more recently in his speeches in Udhampur and Poonch, named the leadership of  the NC while raising wild, unsubstantiated allegations against them. This, while a clear act of defamation, is also a violation of the MCC. This is also a clear attempt to malign our respected leaders, who are equal citizens of this country and have every right to defend themselves against such defamation,” reads the complaint sent to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). 

The NC has requested the CEC to take immediate cognisance of these “violations” and take action under the relevant statutes of law.

NC spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu, quoting examples of Modi's “defamatory” allegations, said, “This not only violates the MCC but is also in contravention of all laws in place to protect a citizens' rights.”

Modi had on Friday alleged in his speeches that the Congress, NC and the Peoples Democratic Party  had “looted” money meant for the development of Jammu and Kashmir.
