NIA attaches house of Hurriyat leader in Srinagar

The sleuths reached the house of Kansas, who was a close aide of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, at Maloora Tuesday morning, officials said.

A day after attaching 17 properties of Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali in a terror-funding case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) attached the property of incarcerated Hurriyat leader Ayaz Akbar in Shalteng area on the outskirts of Srinagar on Tuesday.

Reports said that the NIA notice, pasted on the immovable property, reads: “This is to inform all members of the public that the immovable property ie. land measuring 1 Kanal and 10 Marias under Survey No, 31 at mauza Shalteng Tehsil Srinagar (J8K), in the name of Muhammad Akbar Khanday R/o Malora P.S Parimpora, Srinagar, J&K, as Abadi Deh, has been attached under the Court orders dated May 31, 2023 in RC-101 20177 NIA/ DLI, by the Special NIA Court, Patiala House Courts, New Delhi.”

Muhammad Akbar Khanday is father of Ayaz Akbar, who is presently serving detention in New Delhi’s Tihar jail. Akbar was the trusted lieutenant of Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Geelani, who died in September 2021.

On Monday, the NIA had attached 17 properties in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on the orders of the Special NIA Court, Patiala House, under section 33 (1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act.

The properties belonged to Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali, who was arrested in 2017 by the anti-terror probe agency in a terror-funding case.
