SC dismisses UP plea on students' fee

Last Updated 14 September 2009, 19:42 IST

A bench headed by Justice R V Raveendran refused to interfere with the high court order, which allowed general and OBC students to get the benefit of the scheme even for payment seats in unaided recognised institutions.  The UP government had said that due to paucity of funds, it could reimburse the fees of students only in government colleges. The government had, however, said that the subsidy for the students from SC/ST categories would continue. (The Central government is providing financial assistance for higher studies of SC/ST students).

One of the advocates appearing for the students said while the state government was spending thousand crores of rupees to install statues, it did not have Rs 50 crore to reimburse the fees of poor students.
