<p>Lucknow: Five persons were killed and 50 others missing as flash floods triggered by a cloudburst swept away homes leaving a trail of destruction in Dharali Kheergard village in Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand on Tuesday.</p><p>According to the official sources, the cloudburst triggered a flash flood in the Kheerganga river which flowed along the village. Videos which went viral on social media platforms showed a huge wave of water hitting the village and destroying the houses. </p><p>The video also showed the people trying to run to safety as the water from above hit the houses. The shouts of the people could also be heard in the video.</p><p>The village is barely 18 kilometres from Gangotri, a famous pilgrimage and part of the Char Dham.</p>.Watch | Homes, hotels swept away as devastating flashfloods wreak havoc in Uttarkashi village.<p>Sources said that Dharali market was completely damaged and several shops and hotels were swept away in the gushing waters.</p><p>Unconfirmed reports said that 50 people were missing while more than 100 people were feared trapped under the debris. One of the videos showed a man trying to come out of the debris. Some tourists were also reportedly trapped in Dharali.</p><p>Jawans from the nearby Army camp in Harshil were the first to reach the spot and carry out rescue operations, reports said.</p><p>Officials said that rescue teams had reached the village to carry out rescue operations. The district administration has requested for choppers to carry out rescue operations.</p><p>Union home minister Amit Shah spoke to Dhami. Three teams of the ITBP have been sent to assist in the rescue operations.</p><p>The district administration has issued helpline numbers. They are 01374-222126, 222722, 9456556431. Officials have asked the people to remain away from the river.</p><p>Uttarakhand has been experiencing a heavy spell of rains for the past few days triggering landslides at many places as a result of which roads were damaged in many districts halting movement of vehicles.</p>
