Most corrupt regime in Pakistan - Imran

Former cricketer and president of Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan today described the present regime in Islamabad as the most corrupt and incompetent in the history of the country, but said his party would not like any military intervention.

''This is the most corrupt and incompetent government in the history in Pakistan, but still our party does not favour any military government in the country,'' Khan said at the Kolkata Literary Meet being held simultaneously with the Kolkata Book Fair.

Khan said, ''No matter how bad our democracy is, but we don't want a military takeover in Pakistan.''

He said that the citizens were as concerned about Pakistan as the Pakistan Army.
''If the country goes bankrupt, then the Army will suffer,'' he said.

He, however, acknowledged the role of the Army, saying ''The Army's intention is to have good governance in Pakistan.''

He said rich people in Pakistan were now becoming richer and poor poorer.

Asked to comment on his party's prospect, he said,'' ''Unless we make a clean sweep in the election, we will not form the government in Pakistan. We have decided not to compromise with crooks just to stay in power,'' Khan said.

Khan said that third world countries were now faced with only one issue - corruption.
''People of the most corrupt countries are the most poor and people of least corrupt countries are least poor,'' he observed.

Khan said the present leadership in Pakistan was steeped deep in corruption.

''In the 60s, we were one of the fastest growing countries in the world. But crooks have now come and are making money for themselves. They are doing nothing for the country,'' he said.

Comparing the situation with India, Khan said since India has a coalition government, ''the problem is much bigger here''.
