The Mangaluru division of KSRTC has started the service of Volvo buses to Bengaluru via S K Border-Kudremukh-Kalasa-Kottigehara-Mudigere during the daytime.

Speaking to DH, Divisional Controller Deepak Kumar said that four Volvo buses operated from Mangaluru to Bengaluru on Friday. As there is no demand for Mysuru route, no buses travelled to Mysuru, he added.

The KSRTC is operating Karnataka Sarige buses to Bengaluru via Charmadi Ghat. The closure of Shiradi Ghat and Sampaje Ghat (Mani-Mysuru) has affected the people of Dakshina Kannada in reaching Bengaluru and the other hinterland areas. One of the available roads to connect Mangaluru with Bengaluru and Mysuru is Charmadi Ghat.

As of now, the vehicular movement on Shiradi Ghat has been blocked till August 25. Sampaje Ghat too is blocked with the landslide at Madenadu in Madikeri. Even Sakleshpur-Somwarpet Road has developed cracks. The train service between Mangaluru and Bengaluru is affected with the landslide on the tracks between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road.

Following the closure of Shiradi and Sampaje Ghat, the KSRTC had suspended the services of 115 premiere buses between Mangaluru and Bengaluru. At least 3,500 passengers travel daily between Mangaluru and Bengaluru and Mysuru.

The alternative to Shiradi and Sampaje Ghat to connect Bengaluru and the other hinterland areas is Hassan-Mudigere-Kottigehara-Kalasa-Kudremukh-Bajagoli-Karkala route. If one comes from Shivamogga, then the movement of vehicles on Agumbe Ghat is also difficult for normal buses.

The passengers from Kundapur, Udupi, Puttur and Mulki can travel via Agumbe-Theerthahalli-Shivamogga-Koppa-Tarikere to reach Bengaluru. One can also travel via Arebailu Ghat -Honnavar-Haveri to reach Bengaluru.

One can travel from Dharmasthala-Belthangady-Naravi-Bajagoli-Kalasa-Mudigere-Belur-Hassan- Bengaluru and also Mangaluru-Udupi-Kundapur-Murdeshwar-Honnavar-Sagar-Shivamogga-Nelamangala-Bengaluru.
