The Kuvempu Kalamandira which provides a platform for cultural programmes has turned into a mess with its unkept surroundings.

There are two main gates to enter the Kalamandira from the right side but only one gate is used for the purpose. Heaps of garbage are dumped beside another gate which remains locked.

Leftover food and used plates have been dumped all over and the stray dogs move in packs and scavenge around the piles of leftover food.

The splatter of bird droppings has also made the surroundings of the trees grown on Kalamandira premises a dirty spot. Birds droppings on vehicles is a common sight here.

Speaking to DH, Kannada Sahitya Parishat district unit President Kundooru Ashok said, “The vehicle owners face inconvenience in parking their vehicles at Kalamandira premises. The dust poses a threat to the visitors. During the rainy season, the entire area turns into a marshy field.”

Interlocks should be laid in the parking areas, he added.

Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director C Ramesh said, “A proposal has been submitted to the government seeking funds for laying interlocks and purchasing a generator. There are plans to purchase a private land situated adjacent to the Kalamandira and use it as an exit gate.”
