'Land sought to construction of 13 hostels in district'

Deputy Commissioner M K Srirangaiah said that authorities have sought land for the construction of 13 hostels buildings in Chikkamagaluru district.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, he said that land has been sought for the construction of SC/ST/minority/backward hostels. The officials have been asked to look for land near the schools and colleges. There are 29 civic amenity (CA) sites in Chikkamagaluru. The sites would be shown to those who have sites, for the construction of hostel buildings.

A site has also been sought for the construction of Government Women’s College.

“I have already collected a list of CA sites in Chikkamagaluru Urban Development Authority jurisdiction. A meeting will be convened to discuss on the allotment of land,” he said.

In the recently convened meeting by the chief minister in Bengaluru, the issue of distribution of sites was discussed. The chief minister has directed to initiate measures to distribute sites for the hostels and college.

He said that the district administration has submitted a proposal seeking Rs 37.32 crore to take up relief works.

A proposal on the drought-like situation in five hoblis of Kadur and Chikkamagaluru taluks have also been submitted to the government. Water is being supplied through tankers in 13 villages of Kadur, which has received deficit rainfall. These villages still face a shortage of water, explained the DC.

The district administration has held two meetings to discuss the rehabilitation of people in Masagali forest limits.

As many as 211 families have been identified for rehabilitation. A screening committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of AC. The land would be distributed to those who do not have any source of livelihood. The land identified at Shiravase is not suitable for cultivation. Hence, the authorities have been directed to identify land in other locations.

The DC said that about 54% of sowing has been completed in the district. The area to be sown during the season is 1.5 lakh hectare.

A meeting to discuss on the fourlaning of Mangaluru-Chitradurga highway will be held on August 10 and 11.

The villagers from Ajjampura, Kadur, Chikkamagaluru, Kadur and NHAI officials have been asked to attend the meeting.

Furthermore, he said that the contractor has been directed to complete the work on the UGD, taken up under the Amrut scheme in Chikkamagaluru.
