Pakistan'sForeign SecretaryTehmina Janjua, speaking on behalf of 58 countries, said thatworsening human rights and humanitarian situation in Indian administered Kashmir, specially following decisions taken on August 5th, 2019, requiredurgent attention by the Council and human rights mechanisms.

"We share the concern expressed by High Commission Bachelet regarding the impact of recent actions on the human rights of Kashmiris. Secretary-general Guterres, UN Special Procedures in their joint press release of 22nd August, civil society organisations and the international media, have repeatedly expressed serious concerns about the reported, unprecedented restrictions on the continuous curfew imposed since August 5th 2019," saidJanjua.

Junjua also brought up the 'curbing of fundamental freedoms, communications blackout and reports of widespread torture, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrest, molestation of women and enforced disappearances.'

She mentioned that, in accordance with the UN security charter, UNSecurity Resolutions and human rights standards in international law, "it wasimportant to respect and protect fundamental freedoms of the people of the Indian administered Jammu and Kashmir, especially the right to life, liberty and security."

Restrictions eased in 81 police station area across the Valley

High schools in the Kashmir Valley reopened on Wednesday in areas where restrictions have been lifted but students kept away.

Higher secondary schools in the valley have been shut for over three weeks due to restrictions imposed in the state after its special status was revoked.

Restrictions on the movement of people have now been eased in 81 police station areas across the Valley.

Briefing reporters about the status of schools, Director Education Kashmir Younis Malik had said on Tuesday that 3,037 primary schools and 774 middle schools have re-opened across the valley.

The decision to revoke special status for Jammu & Kashmir is likely to increase the property prices for locals as prices in Srinagar has been hovering very low in a range of Rs 2,200-4,000 per sq ft, property consultant Anarock said on Monday.

However, the consultant said that security concern may keep prospective property buyers at bay for now.

Kashmiri students at the AMU boycotted the lunch invite from the liaison officer of the central government on the occasion of Eid al-Adha on Monday to protest the abrogation of provisions of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

They issued a statement rejecting the invite and claiming that it was aimed at "rubbing salt on the wounds of the people of Kashmir".

There are about 1,300 students from the Valley studying at AMU. While some students had not returned after the end of summer vacations, a large number of them are staying in hostels.

Trade community in Srinagar suffers estimated loss of Rs 1,000 cr: Stakeholders

The trade community in Srinagar has suffered an estimated loss of Rs 1,000 crore in the past week due to the restrictions imposed after the Centre abrogated provisions of Article 370 and divided Jammu andKashmirinto two union territories, stakeholders claimed Sunday.

"The average loss of business per day inKashmirtoday is to the tune of at least Rs 175 crore as life has come to a standstill due to the restrictions imposed by the authorities," a member of theKashmirChamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) said.

The trade body leader requested anonymity as "I do not want any trouble from the authorities".

"Bakeries and livestock dealers have been the worst-hit by the restrictions as people are not able to come out of their homes to make purchases. The bakery owners stand to suffer losses to the tune of Rs 200 crore as their products have a lesser shelf life," he said.

The people of the Valley, especially those in Srinagar, are egging political activists of all hues to unite against the decision, which they feel was taken to change the demography of the only Muslim majority state of India.

Pakistan on Thursday clarified that it has neither closed its airspace for India nor re-routed any route for the Indian flights.

"There has been no change to the notice to airmen (NOTAM) and all flights are being operated as per schedule issued earlier," Civil Aviation Authority Pakistan spokesperson Mujtaba Baig told PTI.

"Pakistan has neither closed its airspace for India nor re-routed or closed down any route for the Indian flights," he said.

Responding to a question about re-routing of a few routes as reported by the media, he said: "Not a single route has been re-routed after the latest tension between the two countries."

Several people were detained after they defied restrictions and took out a rally to protest against the revoking of Article 370 of the Constitution which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

Defying restrictions imposed under Section 144 of the CrPC, over 300 people took out a rally here under the banner of Joint Action Committee.

Some of the people were detained after a minor clash broke out between police and protesters, the officials said.

An advocate on Tuesday approached the Supreme Court challenging validity of the Presidential order of August 5 on Article 370, which took away the special status granted to the state of Jammu and Kashmir in the Constitution.The petitioner-advocate, Manohar Lal Sharma, contended that the order was unconstitutional as the government must have taken parliamentary route. Voicing serious concern over the situation in Kashmir,Chinaon Tuesday asked India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and avoid actions that "unilaterally" change the status quo and exacerbate tensions between the two countries.

"Chinais seriously concerned about the current situation in Kashmir," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said in a written response to media queries about the militaries of India and Pakistan exchanging fire along the Line of Control and the Indian government's move to revoke Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

"China's position on the Kashmir issue is clear and consistent. This issue is a legacy of history between India and Pakistan, which is also the consensus of the international community," Hua said, without directly referring to revocation of Article 370 by India.

"The parties concerned should exercise restraint and act with caution, especially to avoid actions that unilaterally change the status quo and exacerbate the tension," she said.

"We call on the two sides to peacefully resolve relevant disputes through dialogue and consultation and safeguard regional peace and stability”, she said.

This is the second statement issued byChinaon the Kashmir issue in recent weeks.
