Rahul's emotional letter to Amethi voters

Congress president Rahul Gandhi

In an emotive letter to the voters of Amethi, Rahul assured them that the development works, which had been stopped by the BJP government, would be started once the Congress formed its government at the Centre after the Lok Sabha polls.

He also sought to justify his decision to contest from Wayanad LS seat in Kerala, though in a veiled manner, saying that he had tried to unite the country from east to west and from north to south.

''Amethi gives me the strength and courage to stand for the truth, listen to the problems of the people and raise their issues,'' Rahul said in the letter.

BJP spinning lies

''The people of Amethi know that the BJP starts spinning lies, spending huge amount of money...but they (BJP) do not know that the strength of Amethi lies in its simplicity, truthfulness and self-pride,'' he said.

Rahul's letter came barely two days before the constituency goes to the polls. Polling in Amethi will be held on May 6.

Union minister Smriti Irani is the BJP nominee in Amethi. Smriti had also contested against Rahul in 2014 LS polls but had lost by a little over one lakh votes. She has been camping in the constituency for the past several days. For Rahul, his sister and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been campaigning there.
