Man gets 3 years RI for murder

A man has been found guilty of murder and has been awarded three years rigorous imprisonment by Fourth Additional District and Sessions Court.

The convict is Kumara (25), a native of Hungund in Bagalkot. He along with two others, including a minor boy, had murdered one Shivappa Chalavadi near Beluvai in Puncharabettu, Moodbidri, on February 14, 2016.

Among the other two accused, Rangappa Naikar alias Umesh is still at large. While the minor boy is tried separately.

Shivappa was working in a quarry at Puncharabettu in Moodbidri and was residing in a shed nearby along with other workers. He skipped work on numerous occasions and was seeking money from his friends to meet his personal expenses. Shivappa, however, assaulted those who refused to pay him.

On February 14, 2016, Shivappa had sought money from one Mangalappa. When the latter refused to pay, Shivappa had assaulted him.

Miffed over this, Mangalappa brought the incident to the notice of other inmates in the shed. Later, Rangappa, Kumara and a minor boy assaulted Shivappa with wooden logs. Shivappa succumbed to the injuries.

A case was registered by Moodbidri police station.

The then Inspector Ananthapadmanabha, who had investigated the case, had filed the chargesheet in the court.
