Remember Chandan Achar of ‘Kirik Party’ and ‘Mugulu Nage’ fame? He’s back on the screens with ‘Chemistry of Kariyappa’, which released on Friday.

The shoot of ‘Chemistry of Kariyappa’ started in April last year. “I was instantly pulled to it because of the gripping storyline. When I heard about the emotions that the character is playing, I knew it would push me as an actor,” he says.

Chandan plays the role of a 35-year-old man, Uttara Kumar. “Between the age of 25 to 29, he rejects more than 150 marriage proposals. When he crosses the age of 30, girls start rejecting him and this affects him. In this situation, how the protagonist and the society reacts is what the film is about,” says the actor.

He says acting as a 35-year-old was challenging. “I was struggling to get into the character, but I was able to explore the actor in me through this role,” says Chandan.

The film includes incidents revolving around Uttara Kumar, his family, his girlfriend, court conflicts and more.

Ask him why the film is titled ‘Chemistry of Kariyappa’ and he quips, “My father’s character played by Tabla Nani is named Kariyappa. He teases Uttara Kumar about how he doesn’t know how to behave around girls. He continually offers advise to my character in the film which is why it’s called ‘Chemistry of Kariyappa’.”

Compared to other roles Chandan has portrayed, Uttara Kumar was the most detailed and challenging one.

“Travelling and meeting new people helps an actor grow. Observing older friends who have gone through struggles and understanding their situations helped me portray Uttara Kumar better,” he says.

Chandan feels that he has done justice to the role. “I have got a lot of positive feedback about my character. I have a lot more to do as an actor though,” he sums up.
