Ramchandran at his Rams Musique store.

Music has transformed over the years and so have the ways of listening to it. Yet vinyl has outlived the years; perhaps because of the nostalgic charm of experiencing an era bygone that has driven some to collect and preserve records.

If you are among those with a fancy for these antiques, head to these shops in the city that still sell these records.

Rams Musique

The moment you enter 60-year-old Ramachandran’s humble record shop on M G Road, you are taken back in time. One of the oldest music stores in the city, Rams Musique has been around for the last 38 years.

There were and people waiting in long queues whenever a new album released. Now the store sees a mere five to customers a day. But the owner who is lovingly called “Music Ram” is keen on keeping his identity. “People download their music these days. But I’m happy with what I do. Music lovers and friends I’ve known for years walk in all the time. I care for them and I care for music. Most customers spend hours in the store and we chat about old music and rock bands. It’s a way of life. So as long as I’m alive, I will run this store.”
