Haryana has earned the dubious distinction for rising crime against women with at least 4 cases of rape and sexual abuse being reported every day on an average in the state.

In the last 11 months alone, as many as 1413 cases of rape and molestation have been registered by the police against accused. The opposition is slamming the BJP-led government in Haryana for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

The recent case of gang rape of a 19-year Haryana CBSE topper girl has not only put Haryana in a bad light, but it has also exposed the callous indifferent attitude with which the state police dealt with the case.

According to official figures, cases of sexual abuse and rape have jumped over 45% since 2015. Against 916 such cases reported in 2014-15, as many as 1413 cases were registered between September 2017 and August 2018 in Haryana. The number of cases of crime against women have steadily risen in Jatland over the last 4-years.

On Monday, another case of gang rape, this time with a class IV student, came to light from Lakhan Majra area in Rohtak. The 10-year old girl who was putting up with his maternal grandmother was raped by four minor students, including one who is believed to be the victim’s uncle. The police have detained the accused. Haryana goes to assembly elections next year and the deteriorating law and order situation could cost the saffron party dear.
