Gold weighing 8 kg and worth about Rs 2.80 crore was found under an aircraft seat that landed at the Chennai airport from New Delhi on Tuesday morning.
Officials said the gold was recovered based on a specific intelligence input.
The seizure was done by sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and a probe has been ordered.
The aircraft took off to Chennai from New Delhi, where it landed from Singapore.
No arrests have so far been made by the DRI, sources said.
The DRI has been seizing huge amount of gold from passengers in the past few months.
