Amit Jogi, son of Congress leader Ajit Jogi, was rushed to a Jabalpur hospital with serious head injuries sustained in a mob attack, family sources Friday said.

The attack was carried out between 11 p.m. and midnight Thursday  and he was rushed to a private hospital at Jabalpur, said Bipin Kusulia, secretary to Ajit Jogi.

The 33-year-old Amit Jogi was attacked when he was going in a vehicle in a village, some 40-50 km away from Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur town.

A mob, mainly of youths armed with iron rods and sticks, torched a vehicle carrying Amit Jogi, his Personal Security Officer and his 2-3 Youth Congress friends of Chhattisgarh.

The attackers, about 200 in number, smashed Amit Jogi's head with a rod and one of his close aides Sandeep Sahu also sustained multiple injuries, family sources here told IANS.

Raipur-based Amit, the lone son of the wheelchair-bound former Chhattisgarh chief minister, was in Madhya Pradesh to campaign for the Congress nominee, who is one of his close relative, in the  Jabera assembly by-poll.

A blood clot was found in Amit's right eye and he has lost sight in one eye. He has received injuries on hands and other parts as well, sources said.

Ajit Jogi was making arrangements to airlift his son to New Delhi for urgent advanced medical treatment as suggested by Jabalpur doctors, they said.
