BJP president Amit Shah said on Sunday that the violence unleashed by the CPM on activists of the Sangh Parivar outfits in Kerala would only bolster the BJP in its efforts to gain ground in the state. Shah was speaking after laying the foundation stone for a new party office here.

“Whenever Left parties have formed governments in Kerala, there has been a rise in the violence and attacks on the BJP workers,” Shah said. The BJP president pointed out that the violence particularly escalated in Kannur, the home district of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. “We will explore all legal options to ensure that whoever killed BJP workers will face the harshest punishment,” he said at the event which was attended by top leaders of the party including state president Kummanam Rajasekharan and MLA O Rajagopal.

Shah visited Kerala to discuss strategies in the run-up to 2019 Lok Sabha election. The three-day visit was part of the BJP president’s 110-day tour across the country.

Shah’s Kerala visit came amid protests in the state against the Centre’s ban on the sale of cattle for slaughter through livestock markets. He was scheduled to meet the media here but cancelled the interaction. The party president’s visit also had a focus on mobilising support of Dalits and minority communities in the state. Shah also met Church heads on Friday.
