Another BJP MP bats for son as Uttar Pradesh CM

Last Updated 20 September 2014, 20:06 IST

The next Uttar Pradesh (UP) Assembly polls may be a good over two-and-a-half-years away, but the BJP leaders appear to be competing with each other to project their kin as the next chief minister.

Following in the footsteps of Union Minister Maneka Gandhi, another BJP Lok Sabha member has expressed his desire to project his son for the post of the chief minister of UP in case the saffron party wins the 2017 Assembly polls.

BJP MP from Allahabad, Shyama Charan Gupta, on Saturday candidly advocated his son's candidature in an informal chat with reporters, while replying to a query on Maneka’s advocacy of her son and MP Varun Gandhi for the chief minister’s post.

“Why only Varun?.....I too have a son and he is in active politics also....he may also be projected as the next chief minister of the state,” said Gupta, a known party hopper. “Like Maneka Gandhi, I too have affection for my son.....if Varun can become chief minister of UP then why can’t my son?”
