Last Updated 24 October 2018, 17:28 IST

Bharatiya Janata Party Ambikapur candidate Anurag Singh Deo was released on bail in a 13-year-old case.

He had moved a bail application as a permanent arrest warrant issued against him was pending in a local court since 2006.

According to legal sources, Anurag Singh Deo along with his supporters was booked under section 141 Cr.PC and 341 and 34 of Indian Penal Code in connection with an agitation. A complaint was filed with local Gandhinagar police station. He was then Youth Wing district president.

Arrest warrant

The case went to court after a charge sheet was filed. As the police told the court that Anurag and other accused were absconding, a permanent arrest warrant was issued against him and others in 2006.

On Wednesday, he along with his counsel appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate and submitted an application seeking relief from the warrant. The court took him into judicial custody immediately. He then moved the application for bail, which was granted.

Anurag Singh Deo said the case was registered against him when he was emerging as a youth leader. Various demonstrations were staged at that time seeking development of the city. After one such demo, a case was filed and an arrest warrant issued.
