The Congress on Tuesday claimed that the BJP has booked 200 helicopters and aeroplanes for ferrying its leaders for campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls across the country leaving it with fewer option.

Senior Congress Anand Sharma said the 2019 Lok Sabha election was an unequal battle when it came to resources as the BJP was flush with funds and has emerged as the biggest spender on advertisements beating even top corporates.

“They have booked more than 200 helicopters and aeroplanes for campaigning,” Sharma said adding that the Congress was struggling to meet the challenge.

Sharma, at the same time, asserted that the Congress will defeat the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress also raised strong objections to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's use of state machinery and resources for “furthering his political agenda to abuse the opposition.”

Sharma dubbed Modi as BJP's “principal propagandist” and accused him of misleading people through his “hollow and false” promises. He claimed Modi had brought the level of discourse in the country to “gutter level”.

Raising objections to the prime minister spending public money at programmes where he attacks the opposition, the Congress leader called upon the Election Commission to take note of it.

“He is travelling the country and using government resources and machinery, using public money to address his party meetings, to engage in political propaganda which is also abusing, berating the opposition party,” Sharma said.
