The Centre told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that a meeting to select an eminent jurist as part of the selection committee to appoint a Lokpal was held on April 10.
A bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and R Banumathi said at this stage, it is not expedient to pass any order.
Advocate Prashant Bhushan said the government was dragging its feet on the appointment of Lokpal.
Attorney General K K Venugopal informed the court about the latest development in a contempt petition filed by Bhushan on behalf of NGO Common Cause.
The bench also said that it expects the appointment of a Lokpal as early as possible.
