In a shocking incident reflective of highhandedness of the Uttar Pradesh Police, male cops were caught dragging two girls, who waved black flags at BJP president Amit Shah’s cavalcade during his visit to Allahabad on Friday, by their hair on camera.

The girls, both students of Allahabad University, came on to the streets and waved black flags forcing Shah’s cavalcade to stop for a few minutes while it was passing through Dhoomanganj area in the town.

Some male cops caught hold of the two girls, identified as Neha Yadav and Rama Yadav, who are pursuing PhD and post-graduate studies respectively, and dragged them toward the police jeep. They were seen dragging the girls by their hair and pushed them into the vehicle in the video, which has gone viral on the social media.

The girls were also allegedly thrashed by the cops, sources said.

While the senior police officials refused to comment on the video, the Samajwadi Party (SP), with which the two girls were associated, strongly condemned the police action and demanded strict action against them.

“It shows that the state government has no respect for the women...stern action must be taken against the erring cops else we will take to the streets,” SP leader Richa Singh, former president of the Allahabad University students' union.

Incidentally, the cops do not allow people to carry black coloured cloths or wear anything black at the rallies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
