Crisis deepens in YSR Congress

Last Updated 29 July 2013, 20:52 IST

Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s YSR Congress (YSRC) is virtually split on regional lines just when his sister Sharmila crossed the 3,000 km mark on Monday as part of her “Maro Praja Prasthanam” pada yatra.

Senior leader Konda Surekha of Warangal district in the Telangana region, sent a strongly worded open letter to Jagan protesting against the party’s U-turn on Telangana.

Surekha said, while the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) would never go back on his word, the person (Jagan) who robbed Rs 1 lakh crore, will always go back on his word and take a U-turn.

She described the party as a private limited company and the party of integrationists. She also charged that those without public support were being made MLCs through brokers.

She said if the resignations of 16 MLAs was not the decision of the party high command and alleged that they were bargaining to sell party MLA tickets. Surekha, once a cabinet colleague of the Late YSR, and who left the Congress in support of his family, charged Jagan with destroying the party by advising people from jail.

She has alleged that Jagan and his mother Vijayamma had insulted her. She also said that the party was staging dramas for seats, on knowing that the bifurcation was a foregone conclusion. She wondered if choosing integrationist stand was important or the Idupulapaya resolution.

Meanwhile, Congress MP and YSRC supporter Sabbam Hari said he did not speak on the issue of bifurcation as he felt it would embarrass Jagan.

Hari said he would no longer wait for Jagan to take a decision. Hari was addressing Samaikandhra JAC agitators who raided his house in Visakhapatnam on Monday. He said he was the first to wish that the state remained undivided.

With pressure mounting on YSRC honorary president Vijayamma to take a decision on the party’s stand on Telangana, she met Jagan at the Chanchalguda jail and held discussions with him for over an hour.

She discussed Konda Surekha’s open letter and the warnings of other Telangana leaders. The resignations of Seemandhra region MLAs also came up during the discussion.

Senior leadersM V Mysoora Reddy, Y V Subba Reddy and Sajjala Rama Krishna Reddy were also with Vijayamma when she met Jagan.
