Delhi court orders probe into rape allegations against BJP MP

BJP MP K C Patel is in the eye of the storm after a court ordered the Delhi Police to probe allegations of rape against him.

The lawmaker insists that he was “drugged and filmed”.  Patel, elected to Parliament from Valsad constituency, approached the police last week with a complaint that a woman and her gang demanded Rs 5 crore from him for not releasing his pictures and videos they had taken. The woman approached the court claiming that the police did not register a case based on her complaint that the MP raped her in his official residence on March 3, having invited her for dinner. She claimed she was sexually assaulted several times earlier.

“These are false allegations,” Patel said. “I have faith in the law and will cooperate with the investigation.”

The woman responded by saying the MP was trying to use his powers to save himself. “He is making these allegations after I filed my complaint and the court ordered investigations.”

She said the MP threatened her saying he could deal with the FIRs since his party is in power in the state and at the Centre. She also said she shot the video to protect herself. “I fear for my life,” she said.

Patel’s troubles come at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has warned MPs against traps and sting operations. In his police complaint, Patel said the woman sought his help and took him to a house in Ghaziabad, where he was given a sedative-laced soft drink and filmed obscenely. Following the complaint, the Delhi Police  filed an extortion case.

Investigators said a special team has been formed and the culprits would be brought to book soon. “We have been asked by the court to submit a report on May 12. By then we will crack the case and arrest whoever is on the wrong side,” a senior police officer said.

The police are also checking whether the woman is a serial extortionist as there is information that she had trapped an MP last year. Sources said the woman usually befriends MPs and clicks pictures of them in compromising position. She then threatens to lodge rape complaints against them if they refuse to pay her.
