Last Updated 29 March 2015, 20:44 IST

Starting Monday Metro commuters have something to cheer about as they will get new apps that will offer redeemable points for recharging their smart cards.

Passengers will be able to download applications from an application for Android users – Offer World. “The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has tied up with the Offer World app that will reward those users for downloading apps available with it,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

“One can download the Offer World app from Google Play Store. After that he can simply download applications available with it, which will give you credits,” he added.

The selected apps on the offer include news portals, e-commerce portals and games, among others. “The variety of apps will grow in the coming days,” he said.

A commuter can simply redeem his collected credits by entering his smart card number, written on the back of every card, for doing a recharge through the app. “Once you have entered the details the card will be recharged within 48 hours. One can also check his available balance or credits from the home option of the app,” he said.

According to the app’s developers, at least 100 credit points will have to be collected to get recharge benefits. “The DMRC aims at encouraging the use of smart cards by tapping the ever-growing community of Android smartphone users,” it said.

At present, 70 per cent of Delhi Metro travellers use smart cards. “By using smart cards commuters also get a discount of 10 per cent on each travel,” it added.

The DMRC aims to popularise the app through media and by putting up advertisements on the Metro premises and inside the train coaches.

The DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh will launch the app on Monday morning. “Soon after the launch Offer World app will be available on Google Play Store,” he said.
