Four killed in fireworks’ factory explosion

Four persons were killed in an explosion at a fireworks’ factory in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district on Friday. Police said four persons were killed instantly after crackers manufactured inside the factory at Varaganur in Tirunelveli district went up in flames.

Initial reports said firefighters rushed to the area and doused the fire after an hour. Six persons were injured and have been shifted to various hospitals in the area. Fireworks factories in Tamil Nadu are prone to accidents due to a variety of reasons, including the climate.

In a statement, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami condoled their death and announced a solatium of Rs 1 lakh each to the kin of the deceased. He also announced Rs 50,000 for those grievously injured and Rs 25,000 for those who have suffered light injuries.
