The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Wednesday cautioned the public over fake profiles being created on social media of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman that may be used to spread misinformation.

In a Twitter post, the IAF said Abhinandan has no social media account on any social media portal. They also shared a list of fake accounts that have been created in the name of the Air Warrior.

Abhinandan spent nearly 60 hours in Pakistan custody after he landed in the neighbouring country after engaging Pakistani fighter jets that violated Indian air space in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch and Nowshera sectors. Abhinandan returned to India after Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan announced his release as a "peace gesture".

The Pakistani violation came after Mirage 2000 jets of the Indian Air Force conducted pre-dawn raids on terror camps of the Jaish-e-Mohammad in Balakot, Chakothi and Muzaffarabad sectors across the Line of Control.
