Jaganmohan Reddy refuses to speak to AP police

Last Updated 26 October 2018, 12:54 IST

Opposition leader and YSR Congress party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy refused to speak to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) officers that met him here at the City Neuro Centre on Friday. He was attacked by a waiter on Thursday with a cockfighting knife at the Vizag Airport.

The police officials returned without a statement as the leader who is recovering in the hospital asked them to come back with any other agency such as the Central Bureau of Intelligence (CBI) or Telangana police if they want a statement from him. The team of police was waiting to record the statement since Thursday as Jagan was advised rest.

Party sources say that Jagan has no trust in the AP police as he suspects their hand in Thursday attack on him. Jagan was later discharged from the hospital and was advised bed rest for a week. A huge number of fans and party workers eagerly waited for him at the Lotus Pond residence and gave him a hero’s welcome.

The depth of injury
Meanwhile, the TDP and the YSRCP were locked in a war of words over the incident particularly about the depth of the injury on Jagan’s left shoulder. The Police have the certificate given by an Apollo hospital doctor that gave first aid at the airport, saying that the injury was only 0.5 cm in width and equal length of depth. “By the time Jagan reached Hyderabad which is in Telangana the wound gets bigger. It is now 5cm and needed sutures,” a TDP leader said suspecting the hand of Telangana government.

YSRCP moves court

Two YSRCP leaders Anil Kumar and Amarnath Reddy have moved High Court on Friday with lunch motion seeking CBI inquiry into the attack on Jagan. The AP state unit of BJP, on the other hand, has urged the Governor to recommend President’s rule in AP alleging that the law and order situation in the state has deteriorated.

Meanwhile, the family members of the attacker Srinivas in Thanelanka of Mummidivaram is still unable to digest the shock. Police reportedly confiscated a ten-page handwritten letter with him in which he expresses displeasure over his favourite leader unable to become CM. The YSRCP, however, denied any relation with the attacker and said that he is an active TDP member.
