J&K police issues hue-and-cry notice against BJP leader’s kin

Last Updated 21 September 2018, 12:05 IST

Jammu and Kashmir police have issued a hue-and-cry notice against the brother of senior BJP leader and former Minister Choudhary Lal Singh, who is evading arrest after being booked for using abusive language against Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

“One Rajinder Singh, alias Babby, son of Saran Singh and resident of Ward number 2 Kathua is wanted in case FIR 87/2018. The accused has been evading arrest and anybody giving information about his whereabouts would be suitably rewarded," the notice issued by the Superintendent of Police, Kathua, reads.

The FIR was lodged against Choudhary Rajinder Singh after he was heard using abusive language against the Chief Minister in a video that went viral on social media. It attracted widespread condemnation from parties across the state with Mehboob’s bête-noire and opposition National Conference leader Omar Abdullah demanding action against Rajinder Singh for what he called “unacceptable act.”

Last month Lal Singh and another Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Chander Prakash Ganga, were forced to resign from the state cabinet following their participation in a rally organised by the ‘Hindu Ekta Manch’ in January in support of those accused in the rape and murder of an eight-year-old nomad girl in Kathua.

After Rajinder Singh used abusive language against Mehbooba Mufti last week during a public meeting, it attracted widespread condemnation.

Choudhary Lal Singh had quit the state Cabinet after a furore over attending a rally organised by the Hindu Ekta Manch in support of the accused in the Kathua rape-murder case in Hiranagar area of Kathua district in January.
