Key witness in Unnao gang rape dies

A key witness in the Unnao gang rape case in which a BJP legislator was an accused, died under mysterious circumstances prompting the victim's family to demand a probe into the same.

The uncle of the gang-rape victim said that the witness, identified as Yunus Khan, died at his village a few days back. He was buried by his family without informing the CBI, which was investigating the matter.

''The body should be exhumed and a postmortem should be conducted to ascertain the cause behind the death,'' the uncle of the victim said in Unnao.

The local police, however, claimed that the witness in question suffered from a liver ailment, which might have caused his death.

BJP legislator from Unnao Kuldeep Senger is currently in jail after being arrested by the CBI. The minor, who had allegedly been raped by the MLA and his goons, had tried to immolate herself in protest against the failure of the police to act against the culprits.

The victim has alleged that the MLA, his brother and their some other supporters had gang-raped her after she had approached the lawmaker for a job.
