Intense ideological battle in Bhopal between Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh and Malegaon blast accused Pragya Singh Thakur is set to become sharper with former JNU student union president Kanhaiya Kumar's campaign for the Congress on May 8 and 9.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate from Begusarai seat will seek votes for Digvijaya Singh under party guidance as both left parties are supporting the Congress in Bhopal.

Digvijaya Singh, who visited the CPI state office on Sunday, said the allegations against Kanhaiya Kumar for raising anti-India slogans are false.

“A TV channel got RSS and BJP –supporter students to raise anti-India slogan on February 9, 2016 to malign the image of the leftist student leaders in JNU”, Singh claimed.

Confirming Kanhaiya Kumar’s arrival for his campaign, the former chief minister described the CPI as a combative party that always fights in favour of the downtrodden class.

He said that Congress is like a big rainbow where left and centre are together. “ Ideologically, there is little difference between Karl Marx and Mahatma Gandhi, he added.

The BJP considers Kanhaiya Kumar an anathema for articulating his strong anti-Hindutva views. In Bhopal, the BJP has chosen a controversial Sadhdvi who has courted multiple controversies by humiliating 26/11 hero Hemant Karkare and claiming that cow urine cured her cancer, a claim that the doctors who treated her ailment have stoutly repudiated.

Kanhaiya Kumar’s scheduled campaigning for Digvijaya Singh has raised security concerns as the extremist elements in the right wing are said to be planning to disrupt the CPI leader’s rallies.
