The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) scheduled to be held across the country on May 5 has been postponed in Odisha, hit by cyclone Fani.

While the National Testing Agency (NTA) will hold the test in other States on May 5 as per schedule, it will announce the revised date for conducting the test in Odisha “soon.”

The entrance test for undergraduate medical programmes has been postponed by the NTA on a request from the Odisha government.

“NEET exam scheduled for 5th May in Odisha postponed as per the request of State Govt working on relief and rehabilitation work in the wake of #FaniCyclone. Revised dates for the exam in Odisha will be announced soon,” Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry’s higher education department secretary R Subrahmanyam tweeted.

A large number of students were demanding for postponing the entrance test in Odisha, West Bengal and Odisha since the news about Cyclone Fani came in.

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Goa president, Ahraz Mulla recently wrote a letter to the President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the HRD ministry requesting for postponement of the NEET in view of difficulties faced by the students due to cyclone Fani in affected States.
