MP records eight more coronavirus cases; tally rises to 119

An IAS officer and four attendees of the controversial congregation in Nizamuddin were found positive for coronavirus in Bhopal even as the number of patients in Indore surged to 89. By Friday afternoon, a total number of infection cases in Madhya Pradesh rose to 121. Of the four Jamaat attendees, three are from Myanmar and one from Orissa.

MP Health Corporation managing director and 2011 batch IAS officer J Vijay Kumar has tested positive. He had returned from outside the state last week. His staff members have also been advised by doctors to go in quarantine.

In view of the grim situation, the state government is contemplating extending the lockdown period in Bhopal and Indore beyond the stipulated period of April 14.

Meanwhile, Indore collector has imposed the National Security Act (NSA) on four miscreants who allegedly attacked a health department team four days ago. As many as 23 persons from the Muslim community have been arrested from different parts of the state on the charge of violating the lockdown rules.

Curfew has been imposed in Morena district following the detection of corona infection in a married couple.

Of the total 121 cases in the state, 89 are from Indore, nine each from Bhopal and Jabalpur, six in Ujjain, one in Khargone, two each in Gwalior, Shivpuri, Morena and Chhindwara.
