Railway minister incurs wrath of mishap victims

Last Updated 13 July 2011, 16:37 IST

Infuriated over inadequate arrangements at the hospital and non-cooperation of the railway employees, the relatives of the injured, who had arrived at the hospital from their native places, literally mobbed the minister, who was also reportedly ‘pushed’ and ‘pulled’ by them.

Many relatives complained that they were finding it very difficult to trace their near and dear ones and the officials, instead of helping them, were non-cooperative. They also complained of lack of medical care at the hospital.

Trivedi, who was at the hospital for barely 15 minutes, tried his best to pacify the relatives and assured them all help from the railways.

Out of medicine
Meanwhile, the hospital also ran out of medical supplies and a majority of the injured were simply administered sedatives to lessen the pain. Many injured with broken legs and arms had complained that they were not examined by any specialist.

The relatives were also angry as the hospital staff were unable to tell them as to where they could get the bodies of their near and dear ones. Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi also had pulled up the railway staff on Tuesday after meeting the injured at a Kanpur hospital when the injured complained about the delay in the payment of compensation announced by the railways.
