''Scared'' Unnao rape victim seeks trial of case outside UP

Apparently ''scared'' after rape accused BJP legislator Kuldeep Sengar was shifted to the district jail in his hometown of Unnao, the victim and her family have sought shifting of the trial of the case to a court outside Uttar Pradesh.

''The MLA may go to any extent to silence me and my family... I am scared... he should be sent to some other jail and the trial of the case should be held outside the state,'' the victim, who has been putting up at a hotel under police protection, said on Friday.

The uncle of the victim also echoed similar sentiments. ''Unnao jail is just like another home for the MLA... the jailor is his relative... he must be holding a chaupal (meeting) inside the jail...no one has the courage to stop him,'' the uncle said.

He cited the alleged torture of his brother and the father of the victim while being in the jail. The father of the victim died after sustaining several injuries during his alleged torture.

Senger was shifted to the district jail in Unnao on Thursday after the expiry of his CBI remand.

Earlier also the family of the victim had alleged that the goons of the legislator and his brother Atul Senger, who was also in jail on rape charges, had been ''issuing threats'' to them.

The victim had alleged that the lawmaker, his brother and some of their supporters had gang-raped her when she had approached Senger for a job.

The victim had attempted self-immolation near Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's official residence earlier this month in protest against the failure of the police to act against the lawmaker.

Six police personnel have been suspended on charges of laxity. The Opposition parties have demanded the resignation of Adityanath on moral grounds.
