Science events to showcase military might

Mumbai will be hosting two back-to-back science exhibitions that will display India’s military might and its defence and space research capabilities.

The 102nd Indian Science Congress (ISC) and the 17th Techfest, the signature technology event of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, attract top experts and display the major accomplishments of Indian military and defence establishments.

The ISC mega science exhibition will be held in the Bandra-Kurla Complex adjoining the ISC venue on the University of Mumbai-Kalina campus, is titled “Pride of India”.

It will showcase cutting edge technologies, scientific products and services, R&D initiatives, accomplishments of India’s public and private sectors, government departments, research labs and educational institutions.

Pavilions of the Defence Research and Development Organisation, Indian Council of Agriculture Research, Department of Atomic Energy, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Indian Council of Medical Research, and Hall of Pride are the primary attractions in the exhibition.

Besides the departments and agencies, public sector units like ONGC, Coal India Ltd, the Port Trusts and various state governments will also be displaying their scientific feats.

At the Techfest exhibition scheduled from January 2 to 6 at IIIT-Bombay’s Powai campus, the Indian Navy would display scaled down models of ships and submarines, while the Indian Army will be showcasing BMP-2 tanks and artillery guns.

Top scientists including former President A P J Abdul Kalam,  Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India Dr R Chidambaram, former Atomic Energy Commission Chairperson Dr Anil Kakodkar, former Director General of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research Dr R A Mashelkar and Dr Vijay Bhatkar will be addressing the two events.
