AP: 220 Candidates have serious criminal cases

In all 220 candidates (11%) in Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections slated for 11 April have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. The Andhra Pradesh Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analyzed the self-sworn affidavits of 2007 out of 2118 candidates. Out of 2007 candidates analyzed, 331(17%) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves.

TDP tops in Candidates with Criminal Cases:
Among major parties, 48(28%) out of 172 candidates analysed from TDP, 97(57%) out of 171 candidates analysed from YSRCP, 19(11%) out of 169 candidates analysed from BJP, 23 (14%) out of 166 candidates analysed from INC and 26(21%) out of 127 candidates from Janasena Party, have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
Under Serious Criminal Cases category, 27(16%) out of 172 candidates analyzed from TDP, 57(33%) out of 171 candidates analyzed from YSRCP, 10 (6%) out of 169 candidates analyzed from BJP, 16 (10%) out of 166 candidates analyzed from INC and 17(13%) out of 127 candidates from Janasena Party, have declared serious criminal cases.

Crime against women
28 candidates have declared cases related to crime against women such as assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty (IPC Section-354), word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman (IPC Section-509) etc. 14 candidates have declared cases related to Murder (IPC Section-302). 40 candidates have declared cases related to Attempt to murder (IPC Section-307) Candidates with declared convicted cases are 24.

Crorepati Candidates:
Out of the 2007 candidates analyzed, 632(32%) are crorepatis. Among major parties, 157(91%) out of 172 candidates analysed from TDP, 159 (93%) out of 171 candidates analyzed from YSRCP, 64(38%) out of 169 candidates analyzed from BJP, 60 (36%) out of 166 candidates analyzed from INC and 83(65%) out of 127 candidates from Janasena Party, have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore.

Party wise average assets:
Among major parties, the average assets per candidate for 172 TDP candidates is Rs. 32.39 crores, 171 YSRCP candidates is Rs 21.26 crores, 169 BJP candidates have average assets of Rs 3.24 crores, 166 INC candidates have average assets worth Rs 1.84 crores, 127 Janasena Party candidates have average assets worth Rs 7.97 crores, and 699 independent candidates have average assets worth Rs 54.76 lakhs.

Top Three high asset candidates are: Krishnaiah Bollineni, (TDP): Rs 689 cr, P Narayana (TDP): Rs 668 cr and Nara Chandrababu Naidu (TDP) Rs 668 Cr. However YS Jaganmohan Reddy tops in high Income as declared in ITR category with Rs 510 cr. Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh has declared Rs 373 cr.
