The Supreme Court on Monday disallowed a plea made by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy for awarding of media rights of IPL matches through e auction method only.
A three-judge bench presided over by Chief Justice Dipak Misra closed the matter pertaining to e-auction but allowed Swamy to raise conflict of interest issue through an interlocutory application.
The court took into consideration contentions made by senior advocates A M Singhvi and Parag Tripathi, representing BCCI and Committee of Administrators respectively. They submitted that e-auction was not must for award of media rights and the board would not get the best price through it. They also said the process has already begun.
Swamy, for his part, submitted that there was a conflict of interest involving Rajeev Shukla, chairman of IPL governing council. In his PIL, the BJP leader has cited previous apex court verdicts to buttress his point that it has been held that e-auctioning is the best method of awarding contracts.
