Trinamool Congress MPs protested in both houses of Parliament on Monday for the arrest of West Bengal minister Madan Mitra by draping black shawls and raising slogans against the government.

Accusing the government of misusing the CBI in the Saradha chit fund scam, TMC MPs created uproar in both Houses and staged a walkout in Lok Sabha, amid the government’s denial that it had any role to play in the Saradha probe.

In the Upper House, Derek O’Brien raised the issue and alleged that the CBI is playing out a script written by someone. Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien, however, did not allow him to name the person.

“The CBI is being used for political vendetta,” the TMC MP alleged. “We want an independent CBI.”

Finance Minister and leader of the House Arun Jaitley refuted the allegation.
He said: “There is no question of Government or any political leader being involved in what the CBI is doing. The case he is referring to is a case which is being monitored by the Supreme Court of India, and the CBI in this case acts independently and reports the matter only to the Supreme Court of India.”
