3 charged with murder for Alwar lynching

No cops named in chargesheet

Three men, who were arrested in connection with the lynching of Akbar Khan (31) in Alwar last month on suspicion of cow smuggling, have been charged with murder by the police on Friday.

Three accused, Naresh Singh (28), Dharmendra Yadav (24) and Paramjeet Singh (28), have been booked under Section 302 (punishment for murder), 334, 323, 341 of the Indian Penal Code.

The police produced a 25-page long chargesheet and supporting documents before the Ramgarh Civil Court on Friday. According to the chargesheet, the three accused attacked Khan at Lalawandi village in Alwar district when he was transporting two cows and their calves.

However, police have not filed a chargesheet against those personnel of the Ramgarh police station, who were suspended last month. In the chargesheet, police has stated that enquiry is underway on the role of policemen. The role of policemen in the entire incident was under the scanner after assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Mohan Singh admitted on camera that there had been a delay of three hours in taking the victim to the hospital. As a result, Singh was suspended and three constables were sent to police lines.

Last month Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Singh Kataria after inspecting the lynching spot in Alwar had admitted that evidence collected by high-level police team suggested that Khan died in police custody. Following which he had ordered the additional chief judicial magistrate Ramgarh to conduct enquiry.

On July 21, Khan, a resident of Haryana, was beaten to death by cow vigilantes. Khan’s post-mortem report had revealed that he died of shock and injuries from a “blunt weapon or object" and succumbed to multiple injuries following the brutal attack. Khan had 12 injury marks on his body and he died of excessive internal bleeding.

Khan's friend Aslam in a written statement to police said around five men beat Khan with sticks which led to serious injuries on his arms, legs and all over his body.
