Two teachers, including the principal of a college in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district, were allegedly assaulted by students belonging to the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), students wing of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday.
The incident occurred in Jhargram Raj College when principal Kishore Kumar Rai and teacher Debashis Sarkar tried to intervene during a scuffle between two groups of TMCP members.
“I was attacked by Soumen Acharya, district vice-president of the TMCP,” Rai said.
While Rai was admitted to Jhargram district hospital with injuries on his cheek and eyes, Debashish Sarkar received minor injuries.“We have received a complaint and are investigating the matter. A police picket has been already posted in the college,” police said.
“I have heard about the matter. I will meet the victims personally and enquire. Those found guilty will be punished,” the Higher Education Minister of the state said.
The Congress was quick to condemn the incident and demanded punishment to the guilty.
