Vindictive actions against Kerala nuns continue

Vindictive actions continued against nuns in Kerala, who took part in the stir against the rape accused former Bishop of Jalandhar, Franco Mulakkal.

On Wednesday, a nun in Kerala received a second canonical warning from the church authorities. Sister Lucy Kalappura of the Mananthavady diocese in North Kerala's Wayanad district, received a fresh notice asking her to give a written reply to the set of charges against her, which included causing insult to the church and speaking to media against the church.

Feb 6 deadline

Superior General Mother Ann Joseph of the Franciscan Clarist Congregation in Kochi had earlier issued a notice to the sister asking her to personally appear and explain. As sister Lucy did not appear, a fresh notice seeking written statement by February 6 was issued.

But sister Lucy was in no mood to give any explanation as she had joined the stir against Franco to ensure justice for another nun.

Four other nuns, who took part in the stir in front of the Kerala High Court, were served transfer orders and another nun asked to appear in person in Jalandhar and give explanation to a set of charges framed against her. But the nuns are determined to support of the nun who suffered sexual assault.
