In a fresh development vis-a-vis controversial high-profile IRS officer Sameer Wankhede, the Thane police have registered an FIR for alleged forgery in connection with an excise licence which he had procured for a bar and hotel owned by him in the satellite township of Navi Mumbai.
Wankhede, an officer of the 2008-batch of IRS was the Mumbai Zonal Director of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), however, he has now been moved to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in New Delhi.
It may be recalled, Maharashtra Minority Affairs Minister and NCP chief spokesperson Nawab Malik had alleged that Wankhede owned a permit room and bar at Vashi in Navi Mumbai, the licence for which was obtained in 1997 when he was a minor.
The state Excise department had subsequently issued a notice to Wankhede in connection with the bar licence obtained by him - and the licence was cancelled.
The FIR was registered on Saturday night at the Kopri police station.
According to a government report, Wankhede had obtained the licence on October 27, 1997, when he was less than 18 years old, as against the permissible age of 21.
