Chairman of pro independence Jammu-Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Yasin Malik was placed under house arrest minutes after his arrival at Srinagar International Airport from New Delhi.

Reports said Mailk, who returned from Pakistan after over seven-week stay, was escorted to his home from the airport by the police and put under house arrest at his Maisuma residence. A JKLF spokesperson confirmed that Malik has been placed under house arrest.

The JKLF leader who arrived in New Delhi via a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Islamabad on Saturday, faced a volley of questions by newsmen for sharing  dais with Lashker-e-Toiba chief and 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed last month. Malik had organized a protest in Islamabad immediately after Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was hanged on February 9 in Delhi’s Tihar jail. The incident had triggered nationwide furore with the rightwing activists demanding his arrest and impounding of passport.

Meanwhile, Majlis-e-Mushwarat, an umbrella of separatist organisations spearheading the agitation for return of mortal remains of Afzal and JKLF founder Maqbool Bhat, issued a fresh protest calendar for the next week.

It asked the people to hold protests after Maghrib (evening) prayers on Monday and called upon the government employees to stage one hour pen down strike on Tuesday.
The Majlis have called for observance of civil curfew on Wednesday.
