Rs 3 crore released for immediate rain relief: Jayamala

SSLC toppers of Udupi district were felicitated during the 72nd Independence Day programme in Udupi on Wednesday.

Udupi District in-charge Minister Jayamala has said that state government has released Rs 3 crore to take up relief measures immediately to tackle rain woes in the district.

Speaking after unfurling the tricolour and accepting the guard of honour during the 72 Independence day celebrations at Beedenagudde stadium here on Wednesday, the minister said, “The unrelenting showers have created havoc in the district and the life and properties have been lost. However, the coalition government has immediately announced the relief packages. Rs 35 lakh is released to the families of seven persons who lost their lives in the rain and flood. Rs 166 lakh for the loss incurred due to the damages to the houses.”

She added that a proposal was submitted to the state government seeking Rs 40 crore to take up the work on repair of roads, bridges, footbridges and government buildings.

The minister said that as many as 6.59 lakh working days are created under the MGNREG scheme, and Rs 5.31 crore is spent on the programme. The initiative of solid-liquid resource management which enables the transformation of waste into the resources has been taken up in 13 gram panchayats in the district.

Jayamala said 25 villages were chosen under Gram Vikas Yojana and each village was sanctioned Rs 75 lakh. Under Chief Minister Gram Vikas Yojana, as many as 23 villages have been selected and each village was allocated Rs one crore

She said that measures were taken to provide infra facilities to the newly announced taluks, Brahmavar, Kaup, Hebri and Byndoor, in phases.

Jayamala said a compensation of Rs 6 lakh is given to the families of the fishermen who died while fishing.
