Rs 750 cr for development of 229 degree colleges: GTD

District in-charge Minister G T Devegowda, on Saturday, informed that the state government has sanctioned Rs 750 crore for the development of 229 degree colleges.

He was addressing a gathering, after inaugurating the newly-constructed building of the Government First Grade College at Siddartha Nagar, here.

He said that the state government has sanctioned Rs 5 crore for additional development works of the newly-constructed building. "The amount will be spent for construction of 16 classrooms at a cost of Rs 4 crore, two laboratories at a cost of Rs 70 lakh, and Rs 15 lakh each for the construction of toilets for students of both genders," he added.

"To facilitate the students to avail various services from the college online, the Collegiate Education department is providing admission extract, college certificate, and provisional marks card. This service will be effectively implemented from the next academic year," he said.

He said that he has directed all universities in the state to start a placement cell and skill development centres. "I have asked each university to adopt five villages and to create awareness on education, agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, art and culture," he said.

MLC Marithibbegowda urged the minister to release pending honorarium for guest lectures in the state. It is pending since last November, he added.
