Writer Baraguru Ramachandrappa lamented that education and healthcare sectors meant for the masses have been converted into business sectors.

Speaking during the fifth Taluk Kannada literary meet at Matighatta village in Kaduru on Saturday, he said awareness on Kannada language and literature should not be confined to stages.

Willpower of Kannadigas is the prerequisite to carry forward the legacy of the language. Kannadigas always take pride in claiming their identity. If it was not true, the language wouldn’t have been alive today. Kannadigas should convince non-Kannadigas to learn Kannada. But what is happening now in the other way round. Kannadigas are like the crow which raises the young ones of the cuckoo as its own. However, language has a give and take relationship and it should not exceed a certain limit where the real identity of a language is lost, he added.

“The regional concerns, including the language, take a back seat as every major sector lean towards business,” said Baraguru Ramachandrappa.

When literary meet reception committee working president K S Anand said that Kadur is in urgent requirement of irrigation facility, MLA Belliprakash who presided over the programme said that had such efforts been made in the past by former legislators, Kadur wouldn’t have been a dry land today. But, the implementation of government programmes need both time and money.

The MLA said that he is keen on implementing the project and would not involve in politics when it comes to development projects like irrigation. He meanwhile welcomed the stress laid on the progress works in Kadur taluk.

Yalanaduru Mutt Jnanaprabhu Siddarama Deshikendra Swami inaugurated the meet. Kannada Sahitya Parishat taluk president Y S Raviprakash and Kannada Sahitya Parishat district president Kunduru Ashok were present.
