SHAREit has emerged as the most downloaded tool application in India, says a report launched by App Annie, a global provider for mobile data and analytics. It has also been ranked as the application with the third most active monthly user base in the country, next only to WhatsApp and Facebook.
The report says SHAREit currently has over 400 million users in India. Half of them are monthly active users. SHAREit was started as a content-sharing application, diversifying further by partnering with local Indian content provider platforms.
The app now streams local digital content such as short videos, movies and music for its Indian users in nine languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Punjabi, and Malayalam. The user base has a big presence in tier-II and tier-III cities.
Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi are among SHAREit's high user base markets.
Karam Malhotra, CEO, SHAREit India, says the platform's aim is to mix technology and localisation to become the one-stop service for users to browse, download and transfer content with ease. Globally, SHAREit has over 1.5 billion users.
Ranked by monthly users, WhatsApp, Facebook, SHAREit, Facebook Messenger, Truecaller, MX Player, UC Browser, Instagram, Amazon and Paytm were the top 10 mobile applications in the country, last year.
